WBA 1-0 Brighton – A possible lifeline?

For just the third time this season, Albion picked up 3 premier league points on Saturday. The points in question could not have been any more precious, given the situation that Albion find themselves in currently.

West Brom have been firmly ingrained in the relegation for some time now and with other teams around them starting to string together some good performances, the gap to safety was slowly enlarging.

The game itself was full of controversy, with Lee Mason taking centre stage due to his questionable refereeing performance. After several viewings of the free kick, I for one am still completely baffled by the entire situation.

Sam Allardyce has been criticised since his appointment after a very slow start to his tenure, however Albion are now unbeaten in 3 games and ironically they won the only game out of those 3 where they did not deserve to pick up the win.

As fans we can start to see this team having a Sam Allardyce look to it; being solid and harder to beat. The introduction of Okay Yokuslu has been an absolute game changer, adding his composure and technical ability into the midfield completely epitomises everything that was wrong with the side that competed up until his acquisition.

Mbaye Diagne has also made a big impact since signing, both creating chances for others and being a big aerial presence has massively boosted our likelihood of scoring goals.

The win over Brighton takes the Baggies onto 17 points, 9 points adrift from Newcastle who sit in 17th place. The upcoming game against the Magpies is therefore a huge opportunity for the gap to be reduced.

Before Newcastle comes the game against Everton, I am sure I speak for the majority of Albion fans when I say that a point would be greatly appreciated from this game. If we were to pick up 4 points from our next two games then who knows what could happen.
